3.8 Environmental service conditions. Each unit shall operate under the following
environmental conditions without damage or loss of performance:
3.8.1 High temperature. The equipment shall operate at ambient air temperatures up to
+145°F and withstand exposure (non-operating) to ambient air temperatures to +160°F.
3.8.2 Low temperature. The equipment shall operate at ambient air temperatures down
to -25°F and withstand exposure (non-operating) to ambient air temperatures to -70°F.
3.8.3 Altitude. The equipment shall withstand air transportation in unpressurized aircraft
up to 50,000 feet above sea level. The input supply voltages shall be from 17.0 to 33.0 volts dc.
3.8.4 Humidity. The equipment shall operate during and after prolonged exposure to
extreme high humidity levels as encountered in tropical areas.
3.8.5 Sand and dust. The equipment shall withstand, in both operating and nonoperating
conditions, exposure to sand and dust particles that may accumulate within the equipment shelter.
3.8.6 Salt fog. The equipment shall be resistant to the corrosive effects of a salt fog
atmosphere.
3.8.7 Fungus. The equipment shall operate during and after prolonged exposure to
tropical climate fungus, rot, or mildew.
